Birmingham Ice Sports Arena
The Birmingham Ice Sports Arena offers skating opportunities for those of all ages. Whether you want to rent ice for a party, participate in open skating, or register for skating lessons, the arena offers something for everyone! Located on the Kenning Park property, the indoor arena contains a regulation sized ice rink with bleacher seating for 550 spectators. A smaller, studio arena is used for lessons and skating parties within the complex.

The Birmingham Ice Sports Arena is home to:
  • Girls Birmingham Unified Varsity High School Figure Skating Team, a combination of girls from Seaholm and Groves High Schools.
  • Birmingham Unified Kings, the combined hockey team of Seaholm and Groves High Schools.

Studio Birthday Party Packages:  Will resume September, 2024
*Birthday parties may occur in the Main Arena.  Check the summer ice available below.  The studio ice is removed May 28th-September 1st.

Birmingham Unified Ice Hockey

Formed in 1992, the Birmingham Unified Kings is a unified program for the school district. Varsity and JV teams are made up of students from Groves and Seaholm high schools.  Home games are played on Saturday evenings from November - February. The coaches are excited to get the summer BU hockey season kicked off on June 11th!  Registration is now LIVE.  See below for important details:

Training Camp is June 11 – June 13 at Birmingham Ice Arena (Package A):
Camp is for all BPS returning players on the BU Prep team and Varsity team as well as current high school players who are interested and incoming freshmen who are interested.
On-ice – 4:00pm – 5:20pm
Off-ice – 5:40pm – 6:40pm (strength and conditioning training)
Players are to bring their own water bottle.
All players will receive two practice jerseys (which will also be used for the Summer League), one pair of BU shorts and one BU workout shirt.
Those registered by May 8th are guaranteed size selection.

Summer skates / workouts are for all BPS returning players on the BU Prep team and Varsity team as well as current high school players who are interested and incoming freshmen who are interested.
Summer Skates with Coach Zack (or other BU Coaches):
Wednesdays 3:30pm - 4:50 pm at Birmingham Ice Arena; June 19, 26; July 10, 17, 31; Aug. 7, 14
Players are to bring their own water bottle.
Summer Workouts with Steve Alley:
Thursdays from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Groves weight room; June 20, 27; July 11, 18, 25; Aug. 1, 8, 15
Players are to bring their own water bottle.

*The summer skates / workouts are part of one total registration package.  There will not be an a la carte option but coaches certainly understand people will miss things for vacation, jobs, etc. 

For new players, we are also hosting a Zoom intro meeting on May 14th at 8pm with our varsity head coach, Zack Warson.  Zack has a long history of coaching success at all levels, including college and AAA.  He is excited about the future of our program and to meet all potential players.  You can also reach him directly at: (810) 287-7877 or zack.warson@gmail.com.  If interested in the Zoom meeting, please email jimwalsh582@gmail.com and I will provide the Zoom link as we get closer to the meeting date.

Additional Activities:
OAA Summer League for Varsity (Invitation Only):
Begins the week of June 10th  through July 31st.  Total of seven games for Varsity. 
No games the week of July 4th Games held during the evening on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Royal Oak

Farmington Founders Showcase (Invitation Only):
July 19-21

Varsity Training Camp (Invitation Only):
There will be a training camp for Varsity before school starts – 7/23 – 7/25  4:15 pm - 5:30 pm at Birmingham Ice Arena.

  • Approximately 5 ½ miles to South Eton, which is the second light past Coolidge
