Two Options to Verify Your Water Service Line Material
The City of Birmingham must verify your water service line material. If a new service is needed, the city’s consulting engineer, Hubbell, Roth & Clark (HRC), will schedule a replacement, free of charge.
Option 1) BY RESIDENT (Preferred Method):
Residents can determine the In-home material by visiting the provided link (or QR Code) for further instructions via a simple online submittal form, with pictures guiding you along the way.
This process shouldn’t take any longer than 5-10 minutes.

All you need is:
- A magnet and a coin
- To upload a photo into the form
(example of Water Service Line inside your residence):
Residents can use this simple tool created by National Public Radio (NPR) for determining their WSL material.
Simply just follow this link to their website:

After determining your WSL material from the NPR tool, return back to this form to enter your results.
Option 2) By Appointment:
Residents can schedule an appointment with an Authorized City Representative to enter their residence and complete an inspection on the water service line to determine the material. The City’s consulting engineer, Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC), will be conducting these inspections on behalf of the City.
