CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Classes:

Engine 2--ALS equipmentFamily and Friends CPR Class

Currently, the Birmingham Fire Department is offering a CPR For Family and Friends Course for Birmingham residents. The class is held on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 P.M. lasting approximately two hours. The Birmingham Fire Department will NOT be giving out Heartsaver cards for this class. This class is free to the public. Please sign up for the class by calling (248) 530-1906. Please note if five or fewer people are signed up for a class it may be rescheduled for the following month.

This class targets all lay rescuers, such as school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other lay persons who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones. The course teaches rescuers skills in CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. It presents information about the American Heart Association's (AHA) adult chain of survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking in adults. The course also presents information about the AHA pediatric infant and child chain of survival, signs of choking of infants and children, and prevention of sudden infant death syndrome.

The Fire Department also offers a Heartsaver CPR Course designed to teach CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction to all lay rescuers, particularly those expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace.  Automated External Defibrillation (A.E.D.) is part of the training exercise. After completing the course, participants will receive an AHA CPR card with an expiration date of two years.

These classes will be held on the fourth Saturday of January, April, July, and October. They will start promptly at 8:00 A.M. and will last approximately four to five hours. The fee for this class is $50 and payment is required at the start of the scheduled class.

Both the CPR For Family and Friends Course and the Heartsaver CPR Course are limited to 10 students. To sign up for one of these classes, get the exact dates of the classes, or have any further questions answered, call the Birmingham Fire Department at 248-530-1906.

Blood Pressure Readings

Blood pressure readings are taken at the Adams Fire Station, 572 S. Adams, Birmingham, Michigan 48009, 248-530-1906, between the hours of 1:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. No appointment is necessary and there is no charge for this service.
