2016 Construction Program
BIRMINGHAM’S 2016 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM
In 2016, the Engineering Dept. planning several projects aimed at maintaining and improving Birmingham’s water, sewer, and street network. Here are the projects that were completed:
West Maple Road Project
2016 Concrete Sidewalk Repair Program
The City focused on repairing damaged sidewalks in the northwest area of the City, particularly north of Maple Rd. and west of the Rouge River. Miscellaneous concrete road repairs took place in various locations throughout the City during the months of April through June, 2016.
Hamilton Ave. Paving Project
2016 Asphalt Paving Program
The program provided for several local streets to have their asphalt surfaces removed and replaced, mostly in the southerast corner of the City. Handicap ramp upgrades were part of this work, all taking place during the months of August through November, and included extensive sewer improvements on Brown Street. The following roads were included in the project:
Brown St. – Southfield Rd. to Chester St.
Melton Rd. – Eton Rd. to 14 Mile Rd.
Sheffield Rd. – Eton Rd. to Cheltenham Rd.
Cheltenham Rd. – Sheffield Rd. to Dunstable Rd.
Dunstable Rd. – Melton Rd. to Cheltenham Rd.
Mansfield Rd. – Sheffield Rd. to 14 Mile Rd.
Bradford Rd. – Eton Rd. to Melton Rd.
Park St. Parking Structure Painting Project
One half of each floor of the parking structure serving the northeast section of downtown was closed so the structural steel could be sandblasted and painted. The last time this work was done was in 2000, and this project helps maintain the integrity of the building.
