Friends of the Birmingham Museum
For several decades, members of the historical community have worked to establish a museum for the promotion and preservation of Birmingham's unique history. The Friends of the Birmingham Museum (formerly the Friends of the Birmingham Historical Museum & Park and also known as the Birmingham Historical Society) are dedicated to supporting the museum through programs, financial support, and research. Our activities emphasize community awareness of the museum and our local history. We sponsor community history projects, and encourage preservation of our architectural heritage. We also provide regular tours of Greenwood Cemetery.
A significant role of the Friends is to raise funds to support museum operations and to build the museum's endowment. As we see it, we are part of the solution that will help the museum to achieve its goals. This is reflected in the following Fundraising Case Statement:
We are the keepers of the history of Birmingham. We shelter the artifacts and stories of our city. We educate through school tours and life-long learning activities. This is our place in the community. We are excited about the future of Birmingham and we want that future to include appreciation of the past. We want to save pieces of our homes and lives that tell the story of our community. Right now, we can't keep the history well-enough, due to staffing and storage issues. We need the space and staff to do this for the long term. That is why we are proud to raise money to support the museum.

The Friends' Fundraising Success
During 2014 and 2015, the Friends' efforts focused on raising money needed for the construction of a protective outdoor structure for the historic Hill School Bell. With additional funding through the Rosso Family Foundation, the Friends helped make this project come to life from beginning to end.
There will always be projects and opportunties to help the community preserve its heritage and support the museum. Donors and members can depend on the Friends to continue all efforts to continue to make Birmingham a very special place.
