Bring Refuse Containers to Curb by 7 a.m.

Please remember to bring all refuse containers to the curb by 7 a.m. on your designated pickup day, even during inclement weather. Your pickup time may change each week, so it's important that trash and recycling are at the curb by 7 a.m. Weekly curbside refuse pick up does not include any contractor materials and/or pick up of building materials such as decks, playscapes, privacy fencing, construction material and/or cement/concrete materials. Thank you! To protect rubbish and transfer station personnel, all non-bagged refuse material will be red tagged and left at the curb. Please ensure ALL your refuse is bagged and that there are no loose items in your trash container. We can all do our part to ensure essential services, like this, continue in the coming months.

Bag your trash graphic   Reminder to bag trash, empty all liquid and food containers and keep recycling loose for the safety of workers.

Trash is picked up in Birmingham on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Use the map below to determine your trash day. For questions concerning trash collection, call Car Trucking at 586.791.8480.  Important reminder:  All material must be set out by 7 a.m. on trash day.  Routes and drivers can change week to week, so to be sure your trash, recycling and yard waste are picked up, have everything to the curb by 7 a.m. on trash day, or put out the evening prior. Bulky Item Pickup

Did you know we have year-round FREE Bulky Item Pickup! That’s right - simply place your large items at the curb on your trash pickup day. The city collects mattresses, furniture, appliances, doors, and carpeting (rolled no longer than 4' long and tied). We do not accept logs, stumps, or construction debris.  We will not pick up contractor's materials or construction debris (building or landscaping). This includes remodels, additions and new construction or new landscaping situations, this also includes privacy fencing, dismantled decks, play structures, sheds and railroad ties.  If you have items that are heavy or awkward in shape (piano, cast iron tub, hot tub, trampoline, basketball backboards and large amounts of trash) or potentially dangerous (mirrors, glass, windows) you will need to contact Car Trucking at 586-791-8480 to arrange for a  Pick-up of those items or for suggestions on roll off dumpsters.  Another option is called the "bagster",  check out www.thebagster.com for more info.

Have Your Trash Out Early

Attention early birds! Trash collection begins promptly at 7:00 a.m., so be sure to have your trash/recyclables/yard waste at the curb by 6:45 a.m. (You may place your rubbish at the curb 12 hours prior to your pickup. For example, if your trash day is Wednesday, you may place your rubbish at the curb no earlier than 7 pm on Tuesday evening).  If you forget to put your trash out on time you will need to wait until the following week. Remember - material must be set out by 6:45 a.m. Routes change daily, so don't count on a regular pick-up time.

Approved Containers

Refuse must be in approved containers: 20-35 gallon garbage cans, or plastic bags at least 2 mils thick (trash only, no yard waste) .  All refuse containers must be no heavier than 50 lbs.  All trash MUST be bagged, no loose trash in containers.

Holiday Schedule

When New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day occur on a weekday, collection for the remaining days of that week will be one day late.  A good rule of thumb:  When in doubt, put it out.

What to do with plastic bags & styrofoam?

You can take Styrofoam to SOCRRA.  For plastic bags, check your local grocery store  (look for collection barrels near the front of the store at several area grocery stores). For Styrofoam, visit this website for additional drop off locations in the Metro Detroit area.  Stay up to date on recycling by visiting SOCRRA's website & Facebook page.
