All dogs and cats four months old and older must be licensed in the City of Birmingham.  The pet license requires that a pet be immunized against rabies and the license will expire in the same month as the immunization.   Licenses can be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office during regular business hours, online or by mail.  When registering by mail, please enclose your pet license registration form, immunization record and payment.  Proof of residency is now required when applying for a pet license (e.g., driver's license, paycheck stub, utility bill, bank statement, government document that lists your name and address).

2-year tag  - $20.00
3-year tag  - $25.00
The fees for the renewal of licenses are the same as original licenses.

Pet license renewals require the pet to again be immunized against rabies and the owner to present the immunization record to the City Clerk’s Office in person, online or by mail.

Please note: A city license is required regardless of whether your pet is microchipped or tattooed.
