Nagel

Background:

Patrick C. Nagel was a veteran firefighter and paramedic for the Birmingham Fire Department for 16 years.  During those 16 years he demonstrated the epitome of hard work and service to others.  Pat took tremendous pride in his training and preparation, enabling him to handle any and all emergency calls.  Being a natural leader and senior firefighter, Pat was responsible for shaping and mentoring new members of the department; including the current Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief and several others who now hold officer positions.  Pat set the bar extremely high for what it means to be a Birmingham Firefighter.  His love for our profession was contagious.  His dedication was second to none.  He made everyone around him strive to reach his level of excellence.  Because of his dedication to training and preparation, Pat brought a calming effect upon everyone he worked with.  He made us all feel that things would be ok, regardless of the emergency call.  Unfortunately, the Birmingham Fire Department lost an amazing member when Pat’s very promising career was cut short by his unexpected death in 2013.  In honor of his dedication to the community and his profound affect on the noble profession of firefighting, we have named an award for Patrick C. Nagel.  We wish to recognize those in the community exemplifying the characteristics that Pat brought to the Birmingham Fire Department every single day.
