Frequently Asked Questions
Sign review involves a detailed and technical review for any plan for the construction or alteration of a sign.
A sign review is required for any exterior signage including commercial wall, projecting or ground signs, construction signs, temporary signage, and signs in residential areas. Prior to the construction or alteration of a sign, the Planning Department must review and approve the application. The following are signs for which a sign permit and/or review are required (as listed in section 1.04(C)-1.09(F)):

Sign Review Requirements
The following items must accompany a sign review application
- Construction sign
- Parking district
- Canopy sign (on valance)
- Ground sign
- Name letter sign
- Portable Valet sign
- Post-mounted projecting sign
- Rear entry sign
- Temporary portable sign in the public right-of-way
- Temporary sign advertising nonresidential property
- Temporary sign in nonresidential districts
- Wall sign
- Bulletin board sign
- Churches, schools, community centers, and health care facilities, buildings housing government functions & municipal, county and state utilities sign
- Multiple family residential sign
- Temporary sign for churches and private schools
- Traffic/direction sign on grounds of public, charitable or religious institutions

Sign Review Requirements
The following items must accompany a sign review application
- Color minimum 8 1/2” x 11” Photo of Existing Building Without Signage
- Scaled color rendering or minimum 8 1/2” x 11” photo of building with signage showing
- Length of building
- Height above grade of sign
- Sign height and width (Letters, Logo, and/or Background)
- Dimensions from sign to each end of the building or tenant space
- Dimensions from sign to the top and bottom of the sign band
- Location of all existing and proposed lighting fixtures
- A landscape plan showing all existing and proposed planting and screening materials (for ground signs only)
- Site plan showing location of sign (ground signs only)
- Any existing signage with dimensions
- Color measured drawing of sign:
- Height and width of background, letters and logo
- PMS Color numbers
- Sign Materials
- Cut view of sign showing:
- Thickness of sign background and / or letters.(Letters must be a minimum 1/4” thick)
- Electrical details
- Mounting details
- Lighting Information:
- Cut sheet of proposed lighting including:
- Exact fixture size specifications
- Fixture color
- Fixture Style
- Bulb type and wattage
- Manufacturer
- Cut sheet of proposed lighting including:
- Color minimum 8 ½ ” x 11” photos of adjacent buildings
- Prohibited Sign Types:
- Billboards, light box signs, pole signs, roof signs, parked vehicle signs and trailer signs are not permitted
- No sign may be painted directly onto any building surface
