The Department of Public Service's Parks Division is responsible for planting and maintaining the beautiful flowers which enrich our city each summer.

Planting
Each spring, city workers prepare flower beds throughout our city in preparation for planting season. The planting process takes about one month and requires employees to spend full 8-hour days, five days per week to plant more than 1,000 flats of annuals.

Maintenance
Following the planting season, city workers tasks consist of daily weeding and watering of flower beds, merchants’ flowers, 102 hanging baskets and 33 concrete planters. The department works hard to maintain the flowers throughout the summer without disrupting the daily flow of its residents. Each year a new schedule is created to accommodate the current construction projects, road work, and planned city events.
