Books of Local Interest
Saginaw Trail CoverTHE SAGINAW TRAIL: From Native American Trail to Woodward Avenue, by Leslie Pielack (2018).
The settlement of early Oakland County, its Native Americans, African American pioneers, early tragedies, business schemes, and connections to the early Mormon church are just some of the overlooked history included in this overview of the importance of this land route in the building of Michigan. See why this book by our own Museum Director about the people and history of Woodward Avenue has five star reviews! (The History Press: 190 pages, illustrated, softbound—all proceeds go to the Birmingham Museum). She’ll even sign it at no extra charge!

Book of Birmingham coverTHE BOOK OF BIRMINGHAM, by Jervis McMechan (1976).
A classic work that details the founding and earliest history of Birmingham into the early 20th century and beyond. McMechan assembled numerous documents and photos for this important project that is still a go-to resource for general Birmingham history.  Only a limited number of copies remain in this title! (Birmingham Historical Board: 228 pages, illustrated, hardbound--all proceeds go to the Birmingham Museum).
