Get Police Alerts with Nixle Community Information Service
The City of Birmingham encourages residents to join the Nixle Program. The service allows residents to receive breaking news instantly, via cell phone text messages and/or by email. Community members can register by visiting www.Nixle.com or by sending a text message with the zip code 48009 to 888777. For further information regarding this service, contact Patrol Commander Scott Grewe at 248.530.1867.
The Birmingham Police Department uses CRIMEDAR, an online crime mapping system. The tool allows the media and residents alike to view and track crime reports affecting residents within Birmingham. By accessing www.crimedar.com/birmingham-michigan, viewers can see the date, time, location and description of a particular incident. The CRIMEDAR site features a Google map with icons depicting various types of crimes. With a simple click of the mouse, anyone can see a brief summary of the incident. Crime icons remain on the map for two weeks, and then are saved in an archived area. Residents are encouraged to visit the site frequently and submit tips or any information they may have regarding the incidents.
For more information about CRIMEDAR, contact Commander Scott Grewe at 248. 530.1867.
