The Application Process

All applications submitted for positions with the City of Birmingham must be fully completed and signed by the applicant in order to be considered.  Some positions may also require a cover letter, resume or other materials as part of the application process.  Application requirements are outlined for each specific position.

The City of Birmingham continually accepts applications from interested individuals for unsolicited positions and will retain them for a period of three (3) months should a position for which the applicant qualifies become available, he/she may be contacted to determine interest in the vacancy.

The Selection Process

The selection process involves many steps, which may include, written and/or performance tests, oral appraisals, pre-employment physical exams and background investigations in addition to a review of applications. All applicants are subject to a criminal history check.
